804noise Community Meeting Minutes

Meetings are open to the public and held on the first & last Sunday of every month. If you feel like you have something to bring to the table or you just want to see what its all about, please come and participate. [Meeting Minutes]

Sunday April 30, 2006
Present:
Wayne, Carol, Kelly, James, Marty, Tim, Adam, Roger, Kenny, Will
Items Discussed:
-The main topic of discussion for the meeting is the opening of the record store space. Carol was kind enough to prepare some information for us which proved to be a huge help. She went over the main benefits of non-profit versus profit, explaining the process for each, and brought examples of necessary paperwork, which is currently housed at the HarmStryker house but can be viewed by anyone at any time. As a quick summary, there are a few things we would need to do in order to operate as a non-profit. First, we need to apply for an EIN--a tax id number--and apply for tax exempt status. We need to keep books, and take meeting minutes, have bylaws (which have to be notarized and voted on) and we would need to have a minimum of four board members, under the following conventional titles: President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. These board members will serve a minimum of one two year term. We also need to write up a business plan/mission statement. We will need a business license also. Now, we can establish and operate our space before some of this paperwork is finalized, so the record store isn't such a far off objective.

-The main benefits of establishing the record store as a non-profit are:
--we can accept donations that will be tax-deductible for the giver
--we can apply for grants, which we can use to support new releases, touring bands, shows, etc.
--no one person has to shoulder the responsibility of the business

All information about starting a non-profit is available at the irs.org website.

There are no real benefits to establishing the record store as a business versus a non-profit.

-Tim brought us a recording he'd like to release on 804noise as a limited, we discussed artwork standards and gave him the big thumbs up to go for it!

We also discussed the 804noise fest and voted unanimously to bring Carlos Giffoni and Prurient to perform, which will require between $500-$600 to cover their transportation costs and a fee for each. All of us feel it will be a great thing for the fest and we are all happy to see it happen.

Sunday March 26, 2006
Present:
Kelly, Roger, Alfred, Will, & Kenny
Items Discussed:

-804noise Festival will be held Saturday & Sunday October 14th and 15th this year. We discussed trying to secure Art Works for Saturday and Sunday so that we can try and have a more elaborate event. We discussed the idea of Saturday consisting of workshops and a label showcase, where we would invite a few different record labels for a live show case of their artists. Sunday will be the normal all day extravaganza with 20 or so artists from 12 noon to midnight including the label expo in the adjacent room like last year. As soon as we secure the dates with Art Works we will put the call out for submissions from out of town artists, spots for local artists will probably be first come first serve, and like last year we may have to get creative and collaborate with eachother to fit everyone on the bill.

-Kelly & Kenny announced that they are in the process of opening an all noise and experimental music record store in Richmond. We've found a nice spot and it's cheap, that's all we'll say for now, atleast on this list. We discussed whether or not we should make it a non-profit or a sort of unconventional business. Kelly & Kenny expressed their dis-interest in being business owners, but it would allow more flexibility. They proposed that the store would be establish as a business tentatively named Kinch Records (the sound of metal striking stone - thanks wayne) with a subname of "804noise Records" and that outside of a reasonable salary all profits would go back into the store and 804noise Records so that we can release more records on 804noise and other projects, and so we can host more ambitious events in richmond as well. The store would also not only have a presense on the street but also on the internet whrere a good percentage of sales will probably come from. The store will definitely focus on noise and experimental music, but will specialize in limited edition releases, and some major-independent releases. ie. we wouldn't cary the Wolf Eyes record out on Sub-Pop but we'd carry their harder to find material, old and new. The record label will still be run collectively and input for the store will be encouraged. Meetings would be held at the store, and we will be able to have small in store performances. The hours would be from 5pm - Midnight. Everyone present said they'd be willing to help make this happen anyway they can and would volunteer to look after the store and/or build shelving, computers, etc. Any other support would be appreciated as well. We'll keep you all updated.

-We decided to increase the maximum number of 804noise Ltd. releases to 100 and the minumum to 20, with 20% of the product going to the artists. ie. if one made 100 ltd. cdr's then they would keep 20 copies and the rest would be donated to 804noise. So it now goes like this:

804noise LTD Series. The 804noise LTD series will focus on a limited number of releases hand created exclusively for 804noise as a beneficial act of solidarity to raise funds for future 804noise Record Releases. It also provides an opportunity for local Virginia artists to be heard/seen. 804noise will send copies of your release for review and radio play to a few select magazines and radio stations. All materials for these releases are provided by the artists with the finished product being donated to 804noise. The artist keeps 20% of the copies for themselves. Depending souly on the artist, titles may be limited to no more than 100 and no less than 20 copies. All releases must be completely finished before they are officially released. If you need help assembling your release or need access to supplies, 804noise will do everything we can to help. Once all copies of a particular release are sold-out, and depending on the permissions of the artists, 804noise will make the recording completely free to download. If you're interested in releasing something in this format, bring a mock up of your submission to the next 804noise community meeting.

-On the "looking for venues" front, Roger said he may have a lead on a warehouse space that may allow us to do shows, atleast for the next 90 days. It's slated to be demolished by developers.

Sunday December 04, 2005
Present:
Kelly, James, Alfred, & Kenny
Items Discussed:
***ZINE DEADLINE*** The deadline for entry is next Sunday, March 5th. If for any reason you feel you will not be able to make that deadline for a good reason, get in touch with Kenny ASAP or your submission will not be able to be included. We need to finalize the content so that the layout process can begin. The best and most convenient way to submit is to attend the 804noise meeting on the 5th.

***STYLE WEEKLY*** It was discussed that Style hasn't been giving us the kind of press we deserve, and Roger suggested that we call Style when they do not post events in their magazine. Great idea. Style is a doo doo magazine, but it is a way to spread the word. Speaking of spreading the word...

***MYSPACE REPOSTS*** It is VITAL that each of us with an active myspace account repost bulletins about events. Even if you feel that no one on your friends list cares, you would be surprised by the impact that it might have to repost. There is a chance that your friends can repost and connect this information to people who are not linked directly to 804noise but who would be interested in events. Don't ever disregard the importance of word of mouth. Myspace is by far the best communication out there right now, and we can use all the promotion we can get. Also, make sure to encourage the folks on your friends list to add 804noise to their list, it'll only make them cooler. ;)

***MACROCK PREPARATION*** Alfred asked if there is anything that needs to be done in advance of the tabling opportunity at MAcrock, and there's really nothing specific. One thing that would be great would be to get some promotional materials from artists, something that can be handed out. Hundreds of kids pass through that room during those five hours, and it's a chance to spread the word. Free stuff draws folks in like you can't imagine. Plenty of people knew the name 804noise last year, and I can only imagine that more people will know this year. We cannot hand out stickers, per MACrock rules, but if anyone has any other materials--cdrs, literature, buttons, etc.--please get them to Kenny and me soon. MACrock will be held in Harrisonburg the weekend of April 7-9.

Thanks to everyone who made it out to the shows this weekend. We had a nice turnout for both shows, and the performances were satisfying and interesting. It was also really great to meet so many cool people, I saw a few new faces at the shows and hope to see them again at upcoming events. And also, thank you to everyone who pitched in to help, whether it was setting up, breaking down, or hauling gear, your effort did not go unnoticed!

Sunday December 04, 2005
Present:
Kelly, James, Alfred, & Kenny
Items Discussed:
- 804noise has $400 in its non-existant bank account. This evening we discussed the need for a real bank account to keep the money seperate, safe and to make it easier to track money spent. We decided also, once we have decided what to do about banking the money, we would make all transactions and the balance viewable to the public. The issue of whose name the 804noise bank account would be created under came up. James and Kenny both volunteered to put it under their names depending on certain restrictions. We then discussed incorporating "804noise Records" either as a non-profit or a private business. We tossed around some of the pro's and con's (we're still investigating)

The benefit of incorporating 804noise as a non-profit would be grants and donations, tax exempt. The con's would be that it would require a dedicated base of volunteers to be on the board, a major con would be that there would be a board, meaning a heirarchy required by the government. 804noise was founded as a non-heirarchical organization.

The benefit to establishing "804noise Records" as a business would be more freedom to do what we want. We'd get a tax id to buy bulk supplies like mailing envelopes, blank t-shirts in bulk, etc. Another pro or con (depending how you look at it) would be that we could establish credit for 804noise that we could use to release more music. The con's are basically that it would have to be established under a group of people or an individual.

Kenny said he would be willing to establish the business under his name, and would write some kind of disclaimer to be published publically denouncing any form of heirarchy over the rest of collective leaving all decisions to the community and participants of the meetings like they are now. If Kenny were to leave the collective or move away or something, we could sell the "business" to the next active caretaker for $1 dollar (so it would be official) or whatever the collective thinks would be appropriate. To insure that the money doesn't get used personally, or incorrectly, the record of transactions will be public and the community would be aware of any wrong doing and could react appropriately.... that's pretty much where we left it.

- We also discussed the need for artists and members of the 804noise community to organize more events and events to benefit 804noise. We realize that events aren't always the best place to expect money, due to the fact that all the door money goes to touring artists, but if we could organize a few all local events from time to time, or events where the artists agree to let the money goto 804noise then we might have some success.

Also anyone willing to organize anything should know that they are not alone. We would do everythign we can to help, like securing a venue, disributing fliers, working the event, sound system, etc.

One other really simple way of raising funds for events is to table at other events like Flicker, Bizarre Market, speaking events, media events, art events, radio events, etc. etc. We would provide you with the pamphlets, the stickers, buttons, and the merch and distro to table with. So let us know if you have an event you'd like to table 804noise at. We'll also put out a call for volunteers for events we become aware of and need help with.

Sunday November 27, 2005
Present:
Kenny, Kelly, Awwa (minute taker), Will, & Sars:

Item Discussed:
Basically we discussed what, if anything, we might be able to produce for airing on public access here in Richmond. Several people who had had experience with the local public access, talked about how old and quirky the studio equipment is. And how music does not sound very good played at the studio live. A possible alternative would be to play a CD or video tape, which would sound okay, as it is the public access recording equipment that makes live music sound rough.

Which brought up the discussion of what we'd do and how would we organize the public access show, if we could get a slot. We briefly discussed having a live show with call-ins. The problems with producing a live show are, the acoustics for live music are lousy, there are always wiseasses who will crank call just to hear their own voices, lining up live guests each week to be sure to have enough material to discuss during the show, and always having something to show. This last is important because, once you get a slot, you can lose it fast if you allow dead air.

So then the discussion went towards producing a "canned" show or one which is entirely prerecorded and edited. Advantages to this are we would be able to control all of the sound, we would always have enough material/guests to fill-out the time slot, we would have full control over what is shown, we could tape all of the shows before ever offering them to be shown on public access, and if the shows were good enough, we would be able to offer them to UPN, PBS or other local TV station or network. If the audio is kept clean enough, it might even be something which could be played on the radio, possibly WRIR if no where else.

And one other advantage is that unlike getting a live show time slot, where we'd be obligated to provide material for that slot each week, a taped show might be shown at anytime, and several times a week, rather than just the one live slot. Genearlly tapes are played anytime there is nothing else to show, which is fairly frequent. Tapes are good for public access. The administrator for public access can see ahead of air time, exactly what will be shown, thus he has no fear of the content of the show, no bad language or other types of abuses which might get the station in trouble. And it is ready to be shown at anytime he desires. Thus if there is some down time, show cancellations, empty time slots, he can show the tape and not worry about there being any dead air.

Kenny suggested putting on a noise show and recording it to be edited down into the public access show tape. This would allow for better live acoustical sound, as it would likely be at a venue with better sound. It would allow for a group of several performers to have their sets recorded and used for the show. It would provide several hours of material to be edited for future shows. It would be good exposure for the artists who performed (permission to use their sets on the show might be needed in writing). Also you could still tape interviews of the artists, and then edit in their performances.

All in all a prerecorded or taped show allows more control and would likely air more often. The problem is that it might take a lot of time and preparation. But then to produce a live hour show a week takes a lot of time and preparation too. And there's a waiting list for live slots.

I believe that's about as much as I can ramblingly remember. I was going to inquire at the public access studio, what kind of show slots might be available, and how to apply for one. Sickn ess, tiredness, forgetfulness, laziness, all of the above have prevented me from doing so yet. But by the time get through the Holidays, I should be able to provide more information.

What we might want to do now is start organizing a gig that would feature some of 804noise's finest. A gig we could record for later editing into a tape for the show. Potentially others could submit tapes which could be used for the show as well. If someone already has some video taped gigs, that would be a benefit for filling out a show before we even get started.

Sunday September 04, 2005
Present:
Wayne Tripton, Will O'Donnovan, Adam Hudson, Kenneth Yates, Andrew Westerhouse, Marty McCavitt, & James McCrea
Items Discussed:
-We discussed the importance of taking "minutes" at each meeting. "minutes" are the only reference of decisions made at these meetings, and we all promised to be more dilligent about making sure someone is always taking notes. Whoever takes notes is responsible for posting them to the discussion list, where Kenny will then place them on the website.
-It was also decided that everyone who considers themselves a member of the collective must announce publicly to the 804noise discussion list whether they will or will not be at the coming 804noise meeting within a week of said meeting. The reason is because there needs to be someone representing 804noise at every meeting, and if there isn't someone that week, we need time to announce that the meeting is cancelled.
-Keys were handed out to those in the collective who will be responsible for making sure the "open mixer" box at 17.5 Ethos Cafe is unlocked each Tuesday. Each keyholder will post publicly each week whether they will or will not be at the coming weeks "open mixer".

Sunday June 26, 2005
Present:
Adam, James, & Kenny
Items Discussed:
-Breaking in the new meeting space, very nice. Jen and Sarah (owners of 17.5 ethos cafe) have not only allowed us to meet there, but all 804noise Releases will be availalbe there too along side the latest fliers and pamphlets, so go check em' out. This is by far the best place in Richmond to have meetings. Comfortable couches, great coffee and vegan friendly desserts, and a friendly atmosphere.
-James will be archiving the radio show for us each week from his computer, capturing the high quality stereo stream from free103point9.org and uploading it that night to the 804noise server, so it should be available for download that night, beginning this Sunday.
-There has been talk of a Narcotic Dreams full length as a joint release between James' label Useless Media and 804noise.
-We discussed the 804noise Fest and decided to make the festival from 12noon - Midnight because we're going to have a few more artists performing than last year. We want to make sure we have enough time for them all and that people are prepared for it. However, if all goes well, we're still aiming for 10pm or 11pm end time.
-The deadline for submissions, local/out of town, is August 15th and we will make a decision based on the submissions by the end of August.
-We're asking everyone to let us know what labels they would like us to approach for invitation to the 804noise Fest Label Expo. Please email info804@804noise.org with your suggestions.
-We also need to put together a list of people who would like to volunteer the day of the festival, working door, cleaning up, setting up/breaking down, filming, photopgraphy, putting up artists for the night, serving food and beverage, etc. Please come to the next meeting if you are interested, or if you can't make the next meeting email us. info804@804noise.org.

Sunday May 29, 2005
Present:
Adam, James, Scott, Kenny, Sean, Will, & Andrew
Items Discussed:
-Scott Hudgins of ENE submitted a mockup of a 804noise LTD release and it was approved. It will be recordings from the 804noise Fest 2004 ENE set and will be limited to 50 copies. This will be 804LTD-004.
-We decided to move the meetings starting Sunday June 26th to 17.5 ETHOS cafe located on the Farmers Market in Shockoe Bottom. The meetings will be upstairs and will still be from 4pm - 6pm. No more potlucks though...
-We talked a lot about the 804noise Fest in October. Saturday October 15th will be dedicated to workshops, and a possible pre-fest show somewhere. We anticipate an abundance of interest from performers who want to play, and worry that there will not be enough space/time to have them all. The pre-show may help take care of that.
-Sunday October 16th will be the day of the fest at Art Works. We've decided to invite one performer from each of the (areacode)collectives to represent their city and perform at the festival. We're also going to be hosting a label expo at this years festival. We will open the center gallery next to the main gallery to record labels and (areacode) collectives to setup tables with information about their groups, labels, artists, etc.
-Scott suggested that we produce a limited CDR compilation of all the performers slated to perform at the festival this year and hand it out to people who come to the festival. We felt this is a good idea, and will make this happen.
-We talked a little about the record label and our policy concerning our distro. In the past it has consisted only of local and virginia experimental and noise artists. Due to lack of funds on our end to afford proper advertising for the label, we decided the next best thing was to open our catalog to distro's and other record label's for trade. This would insure that our releases are getting out and away from Richmond like they should and that there would be more of a chance of people happening across 804noise releases. In return we will be able to provide Richmond with a decent distro of experimental and noise music from around the world also, we intend to place this distro on-line at some point.
-Once again the "social" was brought up, and this time we decided with Will present that it will continue but we are actively looking for a new place to host it. Some of the problems with Empire is that it's essentially a bar, wednesday nights aren't good for a lot of people, food is too expensive, not a very conducive atmosphere for what the "social" is trying to accomplish. We need a new flier for the "social", the current one has been used for over two months now.

Sunday April 03, 2005
Present: James, Alfred, Kelly, Andrew, Mark L., Kenny, & Adam
Items discussed:
-The relevance of the 804noise Wednesday "social" was discussed in length due to the fact that no one has been coming out. Kenny made the point that if the "social" is the first thing someone experiences of 804noise it doesn't leave much of an impression. Kenny also pointed out that even though it's been brought up numerous times in the past, regular members of the collective and attendees/coordinators of the "social" make very little effort to acknowledge new comers. Kenny also suggested that people who are playing records should stay by the mixer so people will feel comfortable asking about what is being played and asking any other questions they may be affraid to ask a clique-ish looking group.
-We discussed the date for the next 804noise Festival 2005. It is set for Art Works sunday October 16th. There will be workshop's on Saturday October 15th in conjunction with the festival in another venue closer to campus. If you are interested in helping with the organization of this years Festival be sure to make time to attend the meeting on the last Sunday of May.
-Noise Solution Radio - We are going to try to record a weekly calendar based on the events listed on the 804noise website to leave with WRIR 97.3FM for the dj's to play through out the week on various shows. -The 804noise Limited Series is very active right now, with three releases out, plus we have t-shirts on demand. If you're interested in releasing a 804noise LTD release, lets talk.

Sunday February 06, 2005
Present: Kenny, Will, Mark, Andrew, James, Kelly, Scott B, Mark R.
Items discussed:
-A design for 804noise t-shirts was approved, Kenny & Kelly will be screening them to help raise funds for 804noise of course.
-Kelly & Kenny will be representing 804noise at the Mac Rock Festival on April 2nd, 2005 for their Label Expo. We're still awaiting confirmation or not on whether Harm Stryker, Monolith Zero, & Red Canasta will be able to perform.
-Will O'donovan announced that the 804noise "social" will be starting again on Wednesday March 2, 2005 at the Empire Lounge located on the corner of Laurel & Broad. Will O' stressed that he "will" need help. Mark Richardson is going to provide the mixer for the "social".
-Scott Burger from WRIR came to conjure up some volunteers from 804noise to work on PSA's to play on the air. He encouraged us to look into writing psa's for local organizations that we feel would fit our cause as a not for profit community based organization.
-The deadline has passed for the Birds in the Meadow 7" record, it will be reconsidered for release once the material & artwork can be presented. For the time being all our focus goes to the March 15th deadline for a Never Presence Forever/Monolith Zero split CD to be released on 804noise Records sometime in May 2005.

Sunday January 30, 2005
Present: Kenny, Kelly, Maria, Nathan, Alfred, Will, Andrew, James, Paul G.
Items discussed:
-The Narcotic Dreams "Cursed Night" 3" 804noise Limited Release 804-002 is officially out and can be purchased for $4 dollars at events and $5 dollars postage paid via mailorder. More info will be added to the site soon.
-Mark Richardson has volunteered his musical knowledge and writing skills to 804noise in the form of creating press kits/one sheets & online descriptions of 804noise releases and special events.
-Kenny & Kelly announce that Monolith Zero, Harm Stryker, & Red Canasta have applied to perform at this years Mac Rock Festival. There is a pretty good chance that we won't get to perform, but we will definitely be participating in the Mac Rock label expo representing the 804noise collective. We need to start producing t-shirts and material to pass out at the expo.
-February 22nd at the ADA Gallery, 804noise will be hosting a Mix Tape Social which will be held every other month. Check out the events section of the website for more info.
-Will O'donovan brought up the weekly social, and how much he misses it. He has volunteered to spearhead the revival of the "social" acting as the main coordinator, but he doesn't want all the weight to fall on his shoulders, so we need volunteers to help make sure this happens each week and not become one persons burden. People who can commit to to helping set up, break down, & haul equipment, volunteer as back up, in case someone is going to be late or sick, etc should contact us at info804@804noise.org.
-Paul talked about C3, an organization claiming to be an incubator for arts in Richmond. We talked about its relevance to 804noise, their space which seems to offer many resources to artists who have very little of their own, and the fact that its backed by old money and is a little sister/brother of the Richmond Renaissance.

Sunday December 26, 2004
Present: Kenny, Kelly, Steven, Adam H.
Items discussed:

-Narcotic Dreams submitted his 'Cursed Night' EP to become the second released 804noise Ltd CD. The submission was approved for a February 2005 release. Limited to 44 copies.
-We discussed and decided to have 804noise community meetings twice a month on the first and last Sunday of every month beginning January 30th & February 6th of 2005. The First Sunday's of a month will be for discussing longterm goals, organizing, special events, 804noise record releases, and internal issues. The last Sunday of the month will be to welcome newcomers to the group, and discuss outreach, fliers, volunteering, event organizing, new ideas, etc.
-The 804noise weekly "social" at Harrison St. was discussed at length. We decided, atleast for the time being, to put the "social" on hold due to the feeling that it has run its course. Attendance has been thin and the energy that once was there, has dissapeared. There hasn't been much interest from new people within the past couple months, and we felt like the time and energy that went into this event, could be spent better elsewhere within 804noise. It should be noted that this isn't the end of the "social" but a chance to gain a renewed interest and direction for 804noise.
-We discussed the open improv on "First Friday's Art Walk" and the need to keep it spontaneous and unpredictable. We decided that we will conintue to "participate", but not on a regular basis so as to not become a "predictable" fixture of the official Art Walk.
-We discussed the role that "Noise Solution" radio will play in the future of 804noise. The intention of "Noise Solution" was to be all inclusive of the 804noise community, inviting people to participate on whatever level they were able, especially as guest host's. So if you're interested in being a guest host and spinning your private record collection for a potential population of 190,000+ to digest, then let us know! Email noisesolution@804noise.org or talk to either Kenny Yates (Harm Stryker) or Adam Hudson (Monolith Zero) and we will see what Sunday night would be best for you.

Sunday November 28, 2004
Present: Kenny, Kelly, Mark L., Wayne, P.J., & Adam
Items discussed:

-The ADA Gallery at 228 W. Broad St. has invited 804noise to host a regular event in the ADA space once a month beginning January 25th, 2005. We decided to take this opportunity to try something different by hosting an event once a month focusing less on the performers and more on the concepts being presented. The first event will be an "FM/Intusion" where performers will be playing through a small inexpensive fm transmitter to an audience who can only hear the sound if they bring their own fm walkman and headphones.
-We discussed the state of the weekly "social" event at Harrison St. Cafe and decided, if Harrison St. allows, that we would like to continue hosting the "social" there in January & February.
-We decided to move forward with 804noise Ltd. Records. 804noise Ltd. is an extention of 804noise Records to help raise money for 804noise and to increase recorded output by local experimental artists. Each release would be limited to a maximum of 50 copies. For releases with 10 or more copies, each artist/project will receive 5 copies. All artwork will be handmade and assembled by the artists and volunteers within the 804noise collective. The artists will provide all the materials. Each 804noise Ltd. release will be sold for no more than $5 a copy. To have your music and artwork considered for 804noise Ltd. you must submit music and artwork in person at an 804noise collective meeting. All material must be provided by the artists. The first 804noise Ltd. Release will be a screen printed cover & CDR of the Harm Stryker, Birds in the Meadow & Brian Jones live performance at Art Works 10.24.04.
-Birds in the Meadow & Harm Stryker have a December 31st, 2004 deadline to get their 7" money, music & artwork ready to be sent for mastering. The actually release date will be February 1st.
-Monolith Zero & Never Presence Forever have a March 15th, 2005 deadline to get their split CD ready to be sent away for mastering.
-Different ideas to raise funds for 804noise were discussed. Some of which were operating concession at regular events, creating more merchandise like shirts, stickers, & buttons (just awaiting logo), the 804noise Ltd. record releases will help with record sales, bake sales at events like the Bizarre Market along side our regular merchandise, and trying to organize an event once a month where artists perform to benefit 804noise.
-Kenny asked permission to add a little information about the 804 Resource to the the Frequently Asked Questions section of the website. Permission granted.
-Kenny presented the idea of pursuing a collectively run performance & art space for 804noise to use as a central location in Richmond. The idea is to try and get enough people involved that rent would be $50 dollars or less a month. The collectively run space would be operated by those paying the rent/board members. We plan to operate a small record shop that will directly benefit the space and provide the public with free internet, graphics editing, and sound editing access. We will meet seperately from the 804noise community meeting from now on to talk in detail about logistics and ideas. If you are interested in getting involved email info804@804noise.org. Sunday September 26, 2004
Present: Marty, James, Kelly, Mark, Haven, Jen, Kenny, & Wayne
Items discussed:

-The group welcomed newcomer Haven to the meeting and gave a brief overview of what 804noise is about.
-Kenny announced that Lindsay & Bizjan will no longer be able to help with graphic design for 804noise. A call went out for graphics artists interested in designing fliers for 804noise related events. Haven & James said they were willing to submit some ideas when the time comes.
-Lauren Pollock, a kenetic sculpture artist was approved to show her work at the 804noise Fest on Sunday, October 3rd.
-The 804noise weekly "social" was discussed in length. Kelly & Kenny expressed concern that in the event that they weren't able to be at the "social" that there wasn't any contingency plan to getting the equipment down to Shockoe Espresso. Wayne & Marty together decided they would act as back up if Kenny & Kelly couldn't be there. There was also a request that coordinators of the "social" should make an effort to help set up and break down equipment and provide assistance where needed.
-The "social" sign up sheet was also discussed. There was concern from the group that the rules of the list haven't been enforced, that people are taking advantage of the "honor system" and ignoring the secondary signup list reserved for those who have spun within the last two weeks. Haven made the suggestion that the sign up sheet should be revised. Her suggestions were that those who have spun within the last two weeks sign the secondary list and allow new people who come in, even after 7:15pm, to have first dibs on the primary list. For example; if no one is signed up for 8:00pm, that slot stays open till 8:00pm to give new comers a chance to spin, but if 8:00pm rolls around and still no one has taken that slot then the first person on the secondary list gets that spot. We're going to try this.
-Volunteer Responsibilities were discussed for the upcoming 804noise Festival.
-The group discussed taking turns writing minutes for each meeting, passing the responsibility on to someone different each time, that person will be determined at each meeting. The decision was also made to post the minutes publically on the site. Kenny took full responsibility of making sure the minutes get on the site.
